Passkeys make use of the open FIDO2 standard where a public key is shared with the website or SaaS application and a private key is managed by the user.

Passkeys solve various password problems, but they also introduce a new one: keeping your private keys safe.

This is because if private keys fall into the wrong hands, all the security benefits of passkeys disappear immediately. So far, there are three options for managing private keys. These all have usage and/or safety restrictions (see table).

  1. Storage on a specific device, such as a computer or a hardware key.
  2. Storage within an ecosystem of tech giants Apple, Google or Microsoft.
  3. Storage in a password vault.

MindYourPass (key)

MindYourPass is the first to come up with a solution where private keys no longer need to be stored. This makes the problem of passkeys a thing of the past and you can securely access your passkeys anytime, anywhere, regardless of the platform or device you use. Private keys can no longer be stolen, lost or inaccessible because you don't have your hardware key with you.

The MindYourPass solution consists of calculating private keys based on a formula. By recalculating the formula, you can have your private key again. This way, the key does not have to be kept anywhere and can therefore never be hacked. This is how MindYourPass makes Passkeys incredibly safe and easy to use.

MindYourPass with passkeys support will be available in mid-September and is free for private use.
